Plant Healthy Nutrition

“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”

— Michael Pollan, Author

In this simple but powerful statement, “Eat Food” means to eat real food such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds. There are negative health outcomes that arise from eating highly processed food that bears little resemblance to the original, nutritious food it once was.

Eating “not too much” makes sense, but the cool thing about a plant-based diet is that it is hard to overeat! Whole foods are full of good fiber and many phytonutrients that fill us up with just the right amount of calories and nutrition.

“Mostly plants” refers to the healthy benefit of fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds. Eating animal-based foods, such as chicken, red meat, dairy and eggs, causes chronic inflammation when eaten every day, often multiple times a day. If you eat animal products, they should be limited in frequency and amount.
